NGO supports communities in UER with food

Chuchuliga (UE), June 18, GNA – The Christian Children’s Fund (CCFC) has given some food items to 275 needy households in 32 communities in the Builsa North and Kassena West District.

It also presented personal hygiene kits to young adolescents.

The food items included rice, cooking oil and fish, at a total cost ofGH¢47, 000, for vulnerable households whilst the personal hygiene kits cost GH¢ 4,500.

It is part of the NGO’s contribution to fight COVID- 19 and support livelihoods.

The community-level intervention, which included people living with various forms of disabilities who were also household heads, presented 25 kg of rice, a bowl of herrings locally called ‘amani’ and a 5 litre gallon of frytol cooking oil to each household.

Alongside the household food distribution, 250 adolescent boys and girls from the various communities also received personal hygiene kits.

Mr Samuel Sabuli, the Programme Officer who spoke in an interview with the Ghana News Agency after the distribution, indicated that the support was part of CCFC contribution towards the COVID- 19 fight and to reduce its impact on vulnerable households.

According to him, his outfit, which is a child-centred organization recognized the impact of COVID- 19 on vulnerable families and its ripple effects on children.

He said the intervention will help reduce the suffering of young adolescents who had been affected in diverse ways by the disease.

The Programme Officer said the package for an adolescent girl included one pack of sanitary pad, a packet of shaving sticks, a toothbrush, and Colgate toothpaste for each of the targeted 200 girls whilst 50 boys took home a packet of shaving sticks, a toothbrush and a Colgate toothpaste.

The CCFC according to him had operated in the Kassena West District and Bulsa North District since 2016 with various interventions in health, education, nutrition, water and sanitation and sustainable livelihoods.

Madam Akaneasugi Ajabadek, a disabled widow from Nanjuepiug and Juliana Akiskame Achinawalie, a 15- year- old JHS 3 student in a show of gratitude thanked CCFC for the support.
