Accra, June 17, GNA – Mr Atik Mohammed, Executive Secretary, Mass Action Committee, has called on Ghanaians to register during the forthcoming re-opening of the voter’s registration.
He said the exercise was the only way to ensure citizens exercised their right to vote in the December presidential and parliamentary elections.
Mr Mohammed who was a former General Secretary of the Peoples’ National Convention made the call at a Media briefing in Accra to entreat Ghanaians to participate fully in the exercise.
“We will like to entreat the security agencies to continue to protect us from all enemies of democracy and to subject all such to the full rigors of the law especially those who intend to unleash mayhem during the registration period”, he said.
Mr Mohammed urged political stakeholders to play their roles effectively, lawfully, and peacefully and ensure that ineligible persons were not placed on the register.
He expressed concern about alleged comments suggesting the use of violence to either disrupt the registration exercise or harm officials of Electoral Commission.
He said such utterances were reprehensible and must be condemned in the strongest terms possible to safeguard the country’s democratic credentials.
“Any attempts to politicize the actions of security agencies in handling issues of threats must be condemned by all,” adding, that “these acts oxygenate many more of such utterances”.
