Government engages Police to enforce wearing of face masks

Accra, June 23, GNA – Government is engaging the Police to give purposive interpretation to the Executive Instrument (EI) 164 towards enforcing the wearing of facemasks, Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Information Minister said on Tuesday.

Mr Nkrumah, who announced this on Tuesday when briefing the media on the update on count and case management, said the objective of the EI 164 was to compel all persons within public places and who are in contact with others to wear the facemasks.

This, the Minister, explained was necessary to curb the rate at which the positive person who can infect others can spread the virus.

“Generally, what we expect is compliance from the public for the greater public good because you may not know that you are a positive person who can infect others”, he added.

Ghana has recorded 414 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total tally to 14,568 as at Monday, June 22, with the recoveries of 10,907, representing 75 percent of recovered persons and a death toll of 95.

The active cases now stands at 3,566.
