The EC has scheduled ending of June for the mass registration exercise for the compilation of the new voters’ register ahead of the December 7 general elections.
The two-day exercise was being held in all the regional capitals to test the efficacy of the machines ahead of the mass registration exercise for the 2020 general elections.
When the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited the demonstration centre in Wa, it observed that there was a veronica bucket at the entrance of the Regional EC office where the exercise took place.
It also observed that all the chairs at the centre were spaced to ensure that at least one metre social distancing directive is complied with.
Mr Ali Osman, the Upper West Regional Director of the EC told the GNA that the Veronica bucket was to afford the people who had come to register the opportunity to wash their hands before accessing the centre.
He explained that all those measures were to ensure the strict adherence to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) protocols.
Mr Osman said all persons who visited the centre to register were required to wear a nose mask or would be denied registration.
He added that the people were made to sanitize their hands, and the fingerprint machine sanitized before and after the person’s fingerprints were taken.
According to Mr Osman, they had not experienced any technical hitch in the registration process.
Security personnel from the Ghana Police Service were present to ensure sanity at the centre.
