Sunyani, June 17, GNA – Ghanaians have been urged to avoid stigmatizing recovered patients of the Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19), and accept them in society.
This will go a long way to help stem the spread of the virus disease as people who developed symptoms will have the free mind to go for testing.
Pastor Godfred Amoako, the Resident Pastor of the Victory Bible Church gave the advice in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani.
He indicated that the COVID-19 recovering rate in the country was an indication that the virus disease was not a death sentence, hence the need for Ghanaians to desist from discriminating, stigmatizing, and pointing fingers at patients.
Pastor Amoako observed the disease had become part of us, and everybody could easily be infected if people failed to comply with health safety measures and protocols.
Meanwhile, some Christians in the Sunyani Municipality have called on the Christian Council of Churches to set up a task force to monitor and ensure that churches adhered to government directives to contain the spread of the COVID-19.
They told the GNA churches needed to observe the social and physical distancing to protect worshippers as the government eased restrictions for them to attend services.
Mr. Kusi Danso of the Assemblies of God Church at Abesim, near Sunyani explained apart from spiritual development, churches had the responsibility to ensure that their members lived in good health too.
That is why the Christian Council needs to ensure that churches do not breach the government’s directives because it will be suicidal.
Madam Beatrice Agyeman Duah, a resident of Sunyani who could not hide her joy, commended the government for lessening the restrictions which had paved the way for Christians to congregate to worship the Lord God almighty.
“We are very happy and we promise the government we will comply with the directives and follow precautionary measures as well”, she said.
