Covid-19: Sekyere-Kumawu disinfect churches and mosques

Kumawu (Ash), June 05, GNA – The Sekyere-Kumawu District Assembly has embarked on an exercise to disinfect all churches and mosques in the district ahead of their reopening for worships.

Mr Samuel Addai Agyekum, District Chief Executive (DCE) told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Kumawu that the essence was to clean the premises and ensure safety of people who would go there to worship.

He said following President’s new directives to allow churches and mosques to open for worship, it became necessary for the assembly to support the churches to clean their premises and provide conducive environment for their spiritual activities.

“We as government at the local level are committed to the wellbeing of the people and would contribute all we can in ensuring that the people stayed safe from contracting and spreading the disease in the area.

“We have already embarked on mass disinfection of all vehicles whether commercial or private entering and exiting the district and we believe embarking on this exercise is also a responsibility by us to help our people stay safe and protected from the disease”, the DCE emphasized.

Mr Agyekum commended the Local Council of Churches (LCC) and the Local Muslim Council (LMC) for their cooperation throughout the period of the ban and also supporting the disinfection exercise.

He said the disinfection exercise with funding from the District Assembly was also to help build the confidence of the people in gathering at their various places of worship without any fear or panic.

Mr Emmanuel Obeng, the District Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), said his outfit would be in constant monitoring during periods of worship at the churches and mosques in order to help ensure compliance to the government’s preventive protocols such as social distancing.

He urged all the people in the district to abide by the preventive protocols and observe them to stay safe of the virus.
