Accra, June 16, GNA – Ghana’s COVID-19 case count has increased to 12,193 following the confirmation of 229 new cases over the past 24 hours, the Ghana Health Service has stated.
This follows the testing of 255,971 persons representing a positivity rate of 4.76 per cent.
Dr Patrick Kumah Aboagye, the Director General of the Ghana Health Service, announced this on Tuesday at the bi-weekly press briefing by the Ministry of Information to update Ghanaians on the country’s COVID-19 cases and management.
He said four new deaths had been confirmed in the Greater Accra Region, bringing the death toll to 58, adding that the deceased included three males and a female.
Currently there are 13 severe cases, with four in critical condition and on ventilators. The recoveries now stand at 4,326, with an active case count of 7,813.
The 229 new cases were recorded in nine regions; Ashanti-70, Central- 42, Savannah-34, Greater Accra- 32, Western Region-17, Eastern-11, Volta-11; Upper West-10, and Oti- Two.
Touching on the specifics, Dr Aboagye said Weija and Ayawaso remained the regular places were confirmed cases were recorded in the Greater Accra Region, adding that there was no major hotspot in the Region.
“Eastern Region has eleven new cases from Birim-North, New Juaben- one and Fanteakwa- one. The initial outbreak in the Nkawkaw and Kwahu West have been contained and so there are no more reported cases,” he said.
For the Western Region he said Tarkwa-Nsuayem and Sekondi-Takoradi remained the core hotspot of the virus and that a public health team had been dispatched to the Region to help contain the spread.
