Covid-19: Effiduase Methodist trains protocols officers

Effiduase (Ash), June 11, GNA – The Effiduase Circuit of the Methodist Church in the Sekyere East District, has embarked on a training programme for protocol officers to help create a conducive environment for worship amid COVID-19.

The aim is to sharpen the skills of the officers which includes ushers, recorders, task forces, and others, on the new government directives and preventive protocols for churches to help contain the spread of the coronavirus among congregants.

Mr. Wallace Douglas, Secretary to the Diocesan Health and Sanitation Committee of the church, speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Effiduase said the components of the training included the professional handling of congregants during entry and exit of the church premises, accurate recording of congregants’ details, handling and usage of gun thermometers, proper wearing of nose masks, among others.

Education on discrimination and stigmatization of the coronavirus infected or recovered persons and ensuring the confidentiality of congregants at all times were also a crucial part of the training programme.

“Confidentiality is the ultimate focus in terms of not disclosing infected and suspected persons’ details to the public to strengthen the cooperation of the people to help curb the spread of the disease”, Mr. Douglas, who is also an Anesthetist and Chairman of the Circuit Medical Association stated.

The Very Reverend Joseph Kojo Gally, the Superintendent Minister of the church, said provisions had been made for the procurement of thermometer guns, hand sanitizers, Veronica buckets, and soap for all churches within the circuit before 14th of June, this year, for the church’s activities to recommence.

He urged all church members to cooperate with the protocol officers as they embarked on their enhanced services during worship periods.
