Accra, June 29, GNA – Pastor Daniel Kuffuor, Ag Head of the Assemblies of God, Holy Ghost Academy, in Accra, said classes have resumed for its Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates under COVID-19 protocols.
He said per the President’s directives on Sunday classes started at exactly 0900 hours and would end at 1300 hours with students taking four lessons each day with 10 to 15 minutes break to be observed in class.
He said students were asked to bring their food from home and only allowed to go out of their classroom to attend to natures call or any emergency.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) Pastor Kuffuor said the Municipal Assembly had supplied the school with 40 pieces of face masks, liquid soaps, hand sanitizers, tissues, and a thermometer gun to ensure safety in the study environment.
“Veronica buckets with water, soap, and tissue had been placed at the entrance to make sure every student and staff wash their hands before entering the classrooms,” he said.
He said on Saturday, June 27, Zoomlion Ghana Ltd, conducted a disinfection exercise in the school.
He said the 16 candidates out of 19, who reported to school were given face mask each and sitting arrangements in conformity with social distancing.
Mr Bilson Ben, English and Asante Twi Teacher, said some students found it difficult interacting with the face mask on.
“They will want to draw it to their chin from time to time to communicate better but I urge them to keep it on”.
He said the students were cooperating with the directives and classes were going smoothly.
Rita Dede Nartey, a Candidate said the learning environment had changed with the use of face masks but was sure they would get used to it over time.
She said during the lockdown period she had to join other candidates in the neighbourhood to have private classes in preparation for the final examinations come September 14 which is about 11 weeks away.
“I am very happy to return to school to meet my friends, teachers and also be able to continue with studies,” she said.
The Ghana News Agency, also observed other final year students within the community on their way to school early this morning.
