Koforidua, June 8, GNA – Contrary to expectations of massive attendance at church on Sunday, churches in Koforidua remained closed for congregational worship.
It was expected that local charismatic churches in Koforidua would have congregated for worship following the lifting of the ban on churches by President Akufo-Addo.
However, that was not the case, about 12 local charismatic churches that GNA visited on Sunday morning were closed with no one at sight.
The story was not different at the orthodox churches including; the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Methodist Church and the Catholic Church congregations were also closed.
Bishop Joseph Afrifa-Agyekum, Catholic Bishop of the Koforidua Diocese had earlier directed all Catholic parishes in the jurisdiction to stay home until further notice.
A statement released by the Presbyterian Church and the Methodist Church earlier in the week gave guidelines to all congregations to fulfill before opening on specific dates.
Congregations of the Seventh Day Adventists were also closed on Saturday as the leadership had scheduled June 20, for reopening of all the churches if guidelines were fully adhered to.
