Businessman donates 1,000 Nose masks to residents of Swedru

Swedru, June 30, GNA – Mr Francis Ebo Donkoh, Managing Director (MD) of Donkoh and Sons Company Limited, has donated 1,000 nose masks worth 8,000 Ghana Cedis to the residents of Agona Swedru to help fight against COVID-19 Pandemic.

According to the Swedru based businessman, the donation of the face masks was his personal contribution to support efforts of the government and Ghana Health Service to contain the spread of the virus.

Speaking to the Media at Swedru, Mr Donkoh said the donation was also in commemoration of the 10th year of the flood disaster which hit Agona Swedru and its adjoining communities that destroyed properties worth millions of Ghana Cedis.

He said the COVID-19 pandemic was real and asked residents, especially the youth to strictly follow the protocols outlined by the President and Ghana Health Service (GHS) to curb the deadly disease.

He called on people in and around the Agona West Municipality who are well to do to donate personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to frontline workers at the various facilities to encourage them work effectively.

The MD who insisted the distribution should target all the transport Unions, asked the transport unions in Agona West and the rest of the country to impress upon drivers, mates as well as passengers to wear the nose masks and adhere to other protocols to reduce the spread of the virus.

Mr Donkoh called on the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, to strictly ensure the directives given by President and Ghana Health Service were followed to reduce spread of virus.

He appealed to Shopping malls, super markets, transport operators, market queens, artisans and farmers to comply with the measures of the COVID-19 regulations to avoid infections.

He called on the Municipal Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and other state institutions to intensify education campaign to win the crusade against the pandemic.

Reverend Richard Afari, Executive Member of Swedru branch of Ghana Cooperative Transport Society who received the masks on behalf of the unions, thanked the MD for the kind gesture.

He said the masks would go a long way to help tame the COVID19 Pandemic that had unleashed untold hardships to the people in the country.
Rev Afari stated that the Cooperative Transport Society had intensified campaign on dangers of the virus and were enforcing the use of nose masks and social distancing to curb the COVID-19 Pandemic.
