Accra, June 2, GNA – The Adenta Municipal Assembly in collaboration with the National Blood Bank has organised a three-week blood donation exercise to secure more pints of blood from the public to restock the Blood Bank.
Mr Steven Addai-Baah, the Public Relations Officer of the National Blood Bank in an interview with the Ghana News Agency urged community members to donate to meet the demand of blood at the hospitals to save lives.
Nii Adotey Saka, the Information Officer of the Assembly said the existence of the Covid-19 had affected the patronage of the exercise, but expressed the hope that with the education about the exercise, the numbers of donors would increase.
Ms Doreen Asare, an Assistant Information Officer appealed to the public to cultivate the habit of donating blood regularly to augment the blood stock at the Bank.
She urged Ghanaians to cultivate the habit of other jurisdictions, where members of the public walk-in and voluntarily donate blood without waiting to respond to official requests from national authorities.
Ms Asare called for consistent education of the people to clear the myths about donating of blood, for them to come to terms that the concept was to serve their own interest in future.
