Accra, June 27, GNA -The Accra Metro Lions Club has reaffirmed commitment to strengthen its service activities in providing assistance to the aged with eye problems in society.
The Lions Club International Ghana District 418, built the largest eye centre in Korle bu Teaching Hospital valued at $6million.
The Club is also working assiduously to extend its support services of testing vulnerable people with diabetes to know their status and seek medical attention.
Mr Christopher Papa Kojo Conduah, the President of the Accra Metro Lions Club, said this during the handing over and installation ceremony of officers in Accra.
Mr Conduah and his officers who were installed into office to serve a year’s term, pledged to focus on childhood cancer, which had not been given the needed attention.
According to the President, he was determined to create extensive awareness about the disease for early medical treatment.
Mr Conduah said the Club would continue to expand its service impact globally, with commitment to serving the needy and vulnerable for community development.
He promised to increase membership of the club by 50 per cent and strategise ways to maintained old members.
“We will work to provide leadership training among members to build capacity, create visibility of the Club in the eyes of the public, dedicating our time, treasure and talent to the growth of the group,” he said.
Madam Sandra Kesse-Amankwah, the his predecessor, said the group had organised six service activities, including donation to orphanage, eye screening, soap making training, childhood education and support to young entrepreneurs.
She pledged her support and ideas for the new officers to steer the affairs of the Club.
Mr Ampadu Kissi, the Zone two Chair of Ghana District 418, advised the newly inducted officers to be focus and develop innovative measures for the growth of the Club.
