Kenyase (Ahafo), June 17, GNA – The ActionAid Ghana (AAG), women and children rights advocacy, a non-governmental organisation is to distribute the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) preventive packages to 2,611 vulnerable households within 42 communities in the Bono and Ahafo Regions.
Mr Binado K. Tontie, the AAG Programme Manager for the three regions of Bono, Bono East and Ahafo announced when he was speaking at the national launch of the AAG COVID-19 Emergency Response Project at Kenyase in the Asutifi North District of Ahafo Region.
The project aims among others at enhancing COVID-19 awareness and preventive education and build resilience of vulnerable households through the distribution of food and non-food relief items in rural communities.
He said the AAG with support of the European Union presented the items to augment government’s efforts towards the containment of the COVID pandemic.
Mr Tontie said the first phase of the project would cost Gh¢2,190,000.00 to support 31 districts across nine regions in the country.
He explained the Project’s education component response team would use local radio stations, community information centres and social media by youth movements, especially in the beneficiary communities to educate the public about the virus and the need to observe the preventive health protocols.
The package would comprise food and non-food items like rice, cooking oil, Veronica buckets, hand gloves, alcohol-based sanitizers, liquid soap, face musk, disinfectants, sanitary pads, cocoa powder and sugar, Mr Tontie said.
Mr Anthony Mensah, the Asutifi North District Chief Executive entreated the public to accept the fact that “the COVID-19 is real” and therefore needed to comply with directives and also observe the other health and safety protocols to curtail the spread of the virus.
