TWMA supports Muslim communities to mark Eid-ul-Fitr

Tema West, May 23, GNA – The Tema West Municipal Assembly has donated food items to local Muslim communities as they end the Ramadan fast and prepare for Eid-ul-Fitr.

The items, which consisted 50 cartons of frozen chicken and 50 bags of 25kg rice, were distributed to over 30 mosques in all 11 electoral areas in the Municipality.

Eid-ul-Fitr, “festival of breaking the fast”, which marks the end of Ramadan will be scaled down this year as nations around the world take measures to contain the Covid-19 pandemic including the temporal suspension of Eid prayers, social gatherings and other celebratory events.

Making the donation at a brief ceremony over the weekend in the company of some assembly officials including; Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr Patrick Osah Nyumor Atitiati Laweh, Presiding Member, Mrs Adwoa Amoako, Municipal Chief Executive, Tema West Municipal Assembly, said the donation formed part of the Assembly’s annual support to the Muslim communities since its inauguration.

She noted that the Assembly had over the years built a mutually relationship with the Muslim community in the Municipality hence the need to support them and further strengthen the bond in the coming years.

Eid al-Fitr, she said, was a special occasion in Islam albeit the celebration had been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic which required Muslims to mark the festival devoid of the accustomed reveling that annually characterized the celebration.

The MCE urged Muslims to Pray at home as the National Chief Iman had advised and continue to strictly abide by the Covid -19 protocols to curtail its spread of the virus.

Imam Aziz Sama, Acting Chief Imam, Tema West Municipality who was accompanied by some acolytes praised the Municipal Assembly for the gesture as it demonstrated the assembly’s commitment to uniting the people for the ultimate development of the Municipality.

He urged Muslims to adhere to the Covid-19 preventive measures, saying, “Islam and the Holy Quran admonishes us to obey Allah, the Prophet Mohammed and those in authority, and this is religiously founded and justified.”
