Apremdo (WR), May 6, GNA – The protocols of social distancing and staying at home became meaningless to many traders at the Apremdo Market in the Western Region when they all rushed in their numbers to witness a fire outbreak in the area.
The fire, which started around 1:26 pm Wednesday, destroyed 12 stalls and killed a two-year-old child, according to the Western Regional Office of the Ghana National Fire Service.
The majority of the people who thronged the fire scene were also without nose masks, a clear violation of the protective rules on COVID-19 prevention and control measures.
Already, the Western Region has recorded 32 cases of the deadly virus out of the 3091 infected in the country. There are 303 recoveries and 18 fatalities.
Meanwhile, officials of the Fire Service managed to control and extinguish the fire, bringing the situation under control.
