Afransi (C/R), May 29, GNA – Captain Ebenezer Afedze, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Takoradi Harbour, has presented 1,500 nose masks to the Gomoa Central District Assembly and Gomoa Afransi chiefs for onward distribution to the people to curb the spread of the COVID-19.
Speaking to the Media, Captain Afedze said as a citizen of Gomoa Central there was the need to offer assistance to the people amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
He commended Mrs Naana Eyiah, Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Mr Benjamin Kojo Otoo, the District Chief Executive (DCE), and the Central Government for pulling resources to supply COVID-19 items to the people in the area.
Captain Afedze said the virus was more than dangerous and there was the need for all to unite to wage a war against it to stop the havoc it was wreaking on humanity.
He said it had become compulsory for everybody to adhere strictly to the health protocols outlined by the President and Ghana Health Service (GHS) to help control the disease.
Captain Afedze urged market women, youth, drivers, farmers, shop owners and hawkers in the District and entire nation to wear nose masks, wash their hands with soap under running water, use hand sanitisers and observe social distancing to drive away the pandemic.
He commended the Gomoa Central District COVID-19 Team and MP for their tireless efforts to educate the people on the dangers of the disease.
Mr Benjamin Kojo Otoo, the DCE, who received the nose masks, thanked Captain Afedze for the gesture and asked other stakeholders in and around the area to support them to fight the disease.
The DCE said the Assembly had intensified educational campaign with support from the Gomoa Central District Directorate of the GHS, security agencies and traditional rulers to sensitise people about the dangers of the virus.
Mr Otoo said the District Assembly and the MP had distributed hundreds of thousands of nose masks, veronica buckets, tissue paper, alcohol based hand sanitisers, bottles of liquid soap, gallons of alcohol and waste buckets to over 55 communities in the District.
He reminded the people of the dangers of the virus and huge sums of resources government had sank into it since the outbreak of the COVID-19 three months ago.
The DCE called on the youth and entire people of the District to observe all the protocols to curb the spread of the virus in the country.
The Gomoa Central District has not recorded any case but the District COVID-19 Team is working around the clock to protect the people.
