Accra, May 03, GNA – Qatar Charity in Ghana, a Non-Governmental Organization, has distributed food items worth about GH¢10,000 million to 4,500 needy Muslim families across the country to assist them in the month of Ramadan.
The items, which were distributed in Greater Accra, Kasoa, and Tamale with 15 distribution centers saw beneficiary families take home 25 kilos of rice, 10 kilos of sugar, five liters of cooking oil, 800 grams of tomato paste and a box of Lipton.
The distribution was made in partnership with the Coalition of Muslim Organizations, Ghana (COMOG).
Mr Izzeddin Yousif Daifallah, the Country Director of Qatar Charity, speaking at the event said in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the work of poor families have been affected therefore the items sought to enable them to cope with the situation.
“We hope that this would at least support families for a month. We will be active during this period so that we can provide more and more to different families as well as non-Muslims,” he said.
Mr Daifallah indicated that Qatar Charity have been partnering the Zongo Development Fund, the Coalition of Muslim Organizations, Ghana (COMOG) among others to ensure people were identified and supported in communities.
“Qatar Charity has been doing this annually in the month of Ramadan but this year is a special one due to the pandemic were food is not available and we think this is the right moment,” he said.
He said the Charity in past weeks also supported some people with sanitary items to aid the fight against the disease.
He urged all Muslims across the globe to stay at home and be safe to stop the spread of the disease.
Hajj Abdul Rahman Abdul Mannan, the President of COMOG, expressed gratitude to Qatar Charity for supporting the needy in society.
He said this would go a long way to support these families fend for themselves throughout the period.
