Bogoso (W/R), May 29, GNA – Gold Fields Damang Mine has presented Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) worth over $ 108,000 to the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipal Assembly (PHMA) in the Western Region to aid in combating the COVID-19 pandemic.
The items donated comprised of 41 non-contact thermometers, 21,450 pairs of gloves, 15, 670 pieces of pocket-size alcoholic-based hand sanitizers, 754 large bottles of alcohol-based hand sanitizers and 5,408 pieces of surgical masks.
The others were 5,832 pieces of N95 nose masks, 1,080 pieces of protective gowns, 90 pieces of safety goggles, 692 pieces of sample collection kits, 90 pairs of wellington boots, 30 Veronica buckets and 25 pieces of mackintosh aprons.
Mr Razack Yakubu, Manager of Sustainable Development Projects for Gold Fields who presented the items on behalf of Damang Mine, stated that the move by the mining giant was intended to boost the ongoing efforts by the state to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in their operational areas.
He said since Damang Mine’s community development programme considered primary health care as a major module of its development agenda, they would continue to ensure that health workers and their host communities were well protected.
“We already have support for the health and well-being of our host communities and through those same channels, we can assist the communities to replenish some of these consumables that we have donated” he added.
Receiving the donation, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Prestea Huni-Valley Assembly, Dr Isaac Dasmani, expressed gratitude to Gold Fields Damang Mine for contributing consistently to enhance the work of their frontline workers.
He appealed to corporate bodies and individuals to assist the assembly to help their health workers manage the increasing cases recorded within the Municipality.
Mr Emmanuel Kofi Tamaklo, Municipal Health Director in charge of Prestea Huni-Valley noted that the directorate had so far recorded 31 positive cases of the COVID-19 with over 150 samples pending.
He thanked the management of Gold Fields and promised to distribute the items to all health facilities in the Municipality to enable them to discharge their duties effectively.
