Nine Burkinabes arrested for illegally entering Ghana

Wa, (UW/R), May 6, GNA-Nine Burkina Faso nationals have been arrested at Batoma and Beat Four unapproved routes in the Hamile Sector Command of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) for illegally entering into the country on Wednesday, May 6, 2020.

They included; six males and three females aged between 16 and 36.

Mr Ibn Yussif Duranah Abdul-Mumin Seidu, the Upper West Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the GIS revealed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Wa on Wednesday.

“They were intercepted on some motor bikes with Burkina Faso registration numbers as well as one unregistered. The motor bikes have been impounded pending further investigation”, he explained.

The PRO said investigations revealed that the arrested illegal migrants were travelling to Kumasi and Techiman for economic purposes.

Mr Seidu explained that the Port Health authorities had conducted health screening on the illegal migrants and that they showed no sign of health threats.

He indicated that they had since been handed over to the authorities in Burkina Faso.

Mr Seidu said the GIS officials would leave no stone unturned in policing the country’s territorial borders – land, sea and air – as well as enforcing the president’s directive on the closure of the borders.

“We are sending a stern warning to the public, particularly, the border residents that in line with our operational functions, to ensure that prohibited, undocumented and irregular migrants are not allowed entry into the country, we are going all out to secure our territorial borders”, the GIS PRO indicated.
