Miner granted bail for causing death

Nkawie (Ash), May 25, GNA – The Nkawie Circuit Court has granted a 50-year-old miner GH¢200,000.00 cedis bail with two sureties for causing the death of a bulldozer operator.

Andrews Appiah, is said to have hired the operator, Joseph Yeboah, to cover some mining pits at a site, and in the process Yeboah together with the bulldozer, got drown in one of the pits.

He pleaded not guilty and would reappear before the court presided by Mr Johnson Abbey on June 19, this year.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mr Sylvanus Dalmeida, told the court that, Appiah had used part of his land for small scale mining and left the pits uncovered.

He said on May 04 this year, the accused hired Yeboah to use his bulldozer to cover the pits but in the process, Yeboah together with the machine ran into one of the pits and died.

DSP Dalmeida said the accused reported himself to the Nkawie police who arrested and charged him after investigations.
