GNCCI President donates to Nsawam Prison

Nsawam (E/R), May 29, GNA – Nana Appiagyei Dankawoso I, the President of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI) on Friday, donated assorted items to the Nsawam Prison to supplement the provisions made for the inmates.

The items, valued at GH¢ 20,000.00 comprised bags of rice, gallons of cooking oil, boxes of carbolic soap, packs of sanitary towels, and packs of bottled and sachet water.

The gesture was part of the usual activities undertaken by Nana Dankawoso every year to support prisoners, especially in May, as he had named the month of May as the “Month of the Prisoner”.

On May 1, 2020, he visited the Kumasi Central Prison to donate similar items to them.

He said the step was only a fulfilment of a call from God for him to prioritise the supporting of orphans, widows, and prisoners, hence his reason for supporting the Countryside Children’s Home in Awutu-Bawjiase and 350 widows for 13 years now, among others.

He said he had also introduced the “Disciple Class” where gospel ministers went to share the word of God with prisoners periodically and go to their aid.

“For me, I believe doing the work of God is all about paying attention to the needs of the deprived and less privileged and going to their aid if you can,” he said.

Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Solomon Nanavi, the Assistant Public Relations Officer of the Nsawam Prison, on behalf of the Regional Commander of Prison, expressed the gratitude of the Prisons Service and the inmates to Nana Dankawoso and his family for the constant support.

He prayed for God’s blessing upon them and for them to be strengthened in all their endeavours.

He, however, called on other abled institutions and individuals to also go to their aid as the number of inmates increased from time to time. The number of inmates in the Nsawam Prison, he said were more than 3,500.
