GIZ Ghana Staff supports households with relief packages

Accra, May 12, GNA – The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has donated food and hygiene packages to 100 households in Nima, in the Ayawaso East Municipal Assembly.

The GIZ Ghana team led by Ms Regina Bauerochse Barbosa, the Country Director, presented the items at the office of the Chief Imam, and was received by Sheikh Dr Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, the Chief Imam on behalf of the Nima community.

The relief package consists of bags of rice, cooking oil, boxes of mackerel, boxes of tomato paste, carbolic soaps, boxes of bar soap and bottles of hand sanitizers intended to reach about 500 persons.

A statement from the organisation and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Monday said the contributions formed part of GIZ’s measures to support communities and partner institutions in the fight against the spread of COVID-19.

The statement quoted Bauerochse Barbosa as explaining that “GIZ Ghana is very committed to safeguarding the health, safety, and security of its employees, and we are guided by the GIZ values of protecting human rights and treating our employees and communities, especially those who are vulnerable and less privileged.”

It added that “In times like these, when COVID-19 has impacted social and economic aspects of life, we should interpret the social distancing requirement to mean physical distancing, but not to distance ourselves from the concerns and challenges of more vulnerable groups.

Therefore, in solidarity with our neighbours in Nima, the management and staff took a collective decision to support the needy within the municipality,” the statement said.

It said Ms Bauerochse Barbosa expressed the hope that the contributions would help ease the burden of residents during the holy month of Ramadan.

The statement noted that the Chief Imam expressed his profound gratitude to GIZ Ghana and asked that Allah continues to bless the company to grow and succeed, as GIZ Ghana had provided for the needy and vulnerable in this holy month of Ramadan.

It added that the relief packages would be extended to needy and put to good use.
