Ghana records 921 new COVID-19 cases

Accra, May 08, GNA – Ghana’s confirmed cases of COVID-19 went up by 921 on Friday, May 8, bringing the total to 4,012.

The number of recovered patients also went up by 20 to 323.

However, the number of deaths remains 18, from the Monday, May 4 update.

The Ghana Health Service, which provided the update on its designated site for the disease, explained that more than 50 per cent of the new confirmed cases were as a result of an outbreak in an industrial facility with 1,300 workers.

It said 533 of them had been confirmed positive.

The Greater Accra Region has the highest case count of 3,436; followed by Ashanti with 210; Eastern-96; Central-58; and Western North-56.
The Western Region has recorded 35; Volta-32; Upper East-26; Oti-24; Upper West-20; Northern-16; North East two; and Bono – one.

The Savannah, Bono East and Ahafo regions have no confirmed cases.

As at Thursday, May 7, 2020, there were 3,671 active cases nationwide.

Meanwhile, the GHS has urged citizens to strictly comply with the “Stay at Home” preventive protocol, regular hand washing with soap under running water; using alcohol- based sanitisers; observing the cough and sneezing ettiquete, social distancing and the wearing of face mask, among other measures.
