Farmer remanded in custody for rape

Nkawie (Ash), May 25, GNA – A 43-year-old farmer, who lured his colleague to his house, enticed her with drinks and food and later raped her, has been remanded into police custody by the Nkawie Circuit Court.

Osei Kusi is said to have asked the victim to help him pound his fufu and after that they took tots of the local gin, “Akpeteshie” to wet their appetite for the food.

After eating, Kusi forced the victim, who was a bit intoxicated into his room push her down and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her.

His plea was not taken and would reappear before the court presided by Mr Johnson Abbey on May 29, this year.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sylvanus Dalmeida told the court that, the accused and the victim were both farmers at Kwankyeabo, in the Atwima-Nwabiagya South Municipality.

He said on April 09, this year, at about 12 noon, Kusi invited the victim to help him pound his fufu and she agreed.

After pounding, they took tots of “Akpeteshie” and ate the food.

DSP Dalmeida said afterwards Kusi dragged the victim who was a bit dazed into his room and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her.

He said the victim informed her husband and a report was made to the Nkawie police who arrested him.

The prosecution said Kusi admitted the offence in his caution statement but said the victim agreed to have sex with him.

He said the police was still investigating the case.
