Covid-19: NCCE partners NGO to intensify education

Ahwerewa (Ash), May 25, GNA – The Sekyere East District of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has intensified its community outreach programme to educate the public on the coronavirus pandemic.

The programme, which is being done in partnership with Odamos Aid for Rural Development (OARD), is to help create the needed awareness of the disease in rural communities.

Mr. Michael Boahene, District Director of NCCE, speaking at one of the community sensitization event at Ahwerewa, said the aim was to help people in rural communities understand and observe the various preventive protocols to stay safe.

He said the partnership with the NGO, would further strengthen the capacity of the Commission to reach out to many people in the District.

Mr. Boahene said with close collaboration and support from the traditional and opinion leaders, as well as other civil society organizations, a sustained community sensitization programme would help to educate the people to stay safe of the pandemic.

He appealed to the people to adhere to all the preventive protocols and restrictive measures put in place by the government to contain the further spread of the virus in the country.

Mr. Ramos Odame Baffour, Executive Director of OARD, said the partnership with the NCCE was to support public education campaign by the government and other key stakeholders to combat the spread of the coronavirus disease, especially in rural communities.
He urged the people to constantly observe all the preventive protocols of the government in the fight against the covid-19 pandemic.

Nana Antwi Bosiako, Chief of the Ahwerewa commended the NGO and NCCE for the initiative and called for more support and collaboration to expand the education programme to all communities in the District.
