Businessman donates vehicle to GJA-Volta

Ho May 28, GNA – The Volta chapter of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has taken delivery of a Ford Explorer Vehicle from a businessman based in Accra.

The donation, which followed an appeal by the Association, is to facilitate its activities and operations in the Volta and Oti Regions.

Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, Volta Regional Minister was grateful to the donor, who chose to remain anonymous, for the support and recognized the contribution of the Association to the socio-economic development of the Region.

He urged the GJA to ensure proper maintenance of the vehicle and also put it to good use saying, “but for you good performance I don’t think anybody would be encouraged to donate a vehicle to you”.

Mr Anthony Bells Kafui Kanyi, Regional Chairman of the Association described the gesture as “unprecedented and timely ahead of the general elections.”

He was grateful to the philanthropist and said, “as a regional Association we will continue to advance the frontiers of our noble profession by living the way through good initiatives that will add value and recognition to the craft.”

Mr Kanyi said journalism could only attain the highest standards when professionals were given the necessary support in terms of logistics, good remuneration and good welfare and said the Association was open for such discussions.

He said the Regional Chapter was putting measures in place to ensure that media practitioners in Volta and Oti Regions had capacity buildings in peace reporting ahead of the December polls and called for support.

Mr Kanyi expressed appreciation to all donors who had and continued to support the Association and stated the readiness of GJA-Volta to remain an agent of development and champion the highest journalistic standards and welfare of practitioners.
