ACEP donates to Ghana Blind Union

Accra, May 6, GNA- The Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP), a Policy Think Tank, has presented educational materials in a form of braille to the Ghana Blind Union to aid their understanding of preventive measures of coronavirus (COVID-19).

The Think Tank also presented Veronica buckets, and face masks to the Union to help in the adherence to some of the precautionary measures.

Mr Alhassan Iddrisu, the Head of Programmes, ACEP in an interview with the Ghana News Agency alleged that his outfit had identified that the blind were left out in the sensitization programmes on COVID-19, since most of the materials were written in printed form.

He said ACEP decided to print these educational materials in braille form to aid the blind in understanding the issues concerning the virus and adhere to the measures to fight the spread of the disease.

According to Mr Iddrisu, the braille had analysis of the impact of COVID-19 on the economy and government’s social interventions, including electricity and water reliefs on the citizenry for their comprehension.

He believed that any approach to address COVID-19 must include all facet of people especially persons with disability for comprehensive results, stressing that the gesture serve as a reference materials for the blind people.

Dr Peter Obeng-Asamoa, the Executive Director of the Union, who received the items commended the organisation for their selfless gesture and pledged to distribute the materials to its members across the regions.

“The braille is a major boost for us to access information on happening in the country as far as COVID-19 is concern. We have been left out but through the effort of ACEP we are now included on happening surrounding the disease”, he added.

“We heard about food distribution but could not get some, but with the help of the braille, our members will have access to timely information and follow-up on social interventions for persons with disability”

He appealed to corporate entities and philanthropists to come to their aid.
