Bolgatanga, April 2, GNA – Naba Paul Agoo, the Chief of Zaare Traditional area, in the Bolgatanga Municipality of the Upper East Region, has called on traditional leaders in the Region to take active part in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Let us support the government and the Ghana Health Service to educate the people on the various practices we can all adopt to ensure that the disease is controlled”.
The Chief made the call when he presented 15 Veronica buckets by the Terabuuriyele, a non-partisan group made up of the gurune-speaking communities in the Region, to some institutions, to support the fight against the spread of the virus in the area.
He said it was good that the region had not recorded any case of the disease and that was an encouragement to all leaders in the area to support the fight.
The hand washing facilities were distributed to Banks, market centres, the lorry stations and some health centres to support government in the fight against the pandemic.
Mr Martin Abiriya, a leading member of the Organisation who spoke to the media prior to the distribution, said the Region and the entire country was at risk as a result of the virus.
“As an organization, which seeks to promote and preserve the culture of Frafra people, we decided to support the government in the COVID-19 fight.”
He said the beneficiary facilities were public places, which often received customers and clients, hence, the need for them to observe the hand washing protocol of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to curb the possible spread of the virus into the Region.
Mr Abiriya said Terabuuriyele was concerned about the rapid spread of the virus across the world and saw the need to put measures in place within its interest areas to prevent the spread among natives and residents in the gurune-speaking areas within the Region.
He indicated that apart from the gesture, the Organisation would collaborate with the Bolgatanga Traditional Council to advocate and intensify education on the need for people to adhere to the GHS protocols on COVID-19.
