UDS donates to traditional authorities toward COVID-19

Sagnarigu (N/R), April 03, GNA – The University for Development Studies (UDS) has donated gallons of alcohol-based hand sanitizers, liquid soap and Veronica Buckets to traditional authorities within its catchment area as part of efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

The beneficiary palaces were; Gukpegu, Sagnarigu, Dakpema, Dungu and Nyankpala in the Northern Region, the Navro Pio in the Upper East Region while the Wa Naa’s Palace in the Upper West Region will take delivery of its share later this week.

The alcohol-based hand sanitizer presented to the palaces was produced by the Department of Pharmacy of the UDS.

Professor Felix Abagale, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of UDS, who led a team from the University to present the items to the palaces in the Northern Region, said the gesture formed part of UDS’ corporate social responsibility to prevent the spread of the disease in the country
Prof Abagale said “Management feels the need to reach out to you, who are among the University’s formidable allies, during these daunting times of COVID-19,” hence the gesture.

He emphasized the need for all to adhere to the protective measures prescribed by health authorities and to endeavour to comply with the directives of the President to help curb the spread of the virus.

He emphasised that it was the mandate of the University to help find solutions to the development challenges of society, adding that it was the reason the Department of Pharmacy of UDS produced the alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

The Chiefs and Elders at the various palaces commended Management of UDS for the gesture shown them and pledged their unflinching resolve to cooperate with the University to ensure its growth and the furtherance of higher learning.

Paramount Chief of Sagnarigu Traditional Area, Naa Yakubu Abdulai, lauded research works being undertaken by the University, especially in relation to health and development, amidst limited resources and noted the need to have functional and well-resourced laboratories at the University to help enhance further research.

In an earlier development, chlorine disinfectants, under the auspices of Vice Chancellors in Ghana, were delivered to UDS’ Campus Principals for the fumigation of all Campuses.
