Tamale SDA Hospital receives PPE for COVID-19

Tamale, April 25, GNA – Ghana Adventist Health Services (GAHS), on Saturday, donated assorted Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Hospital, in Tamale, to support the fight against COVID-19 in the Municipality.

The items, valued at about GH¢20,000.00, included overall surgical gowns, face masks, Veronica Buckets and alcohol-based hand sanitizers as well as other sanitary items.

Pastor Dr Paul Amo Kyeremeh, Director of GAHS who made the presentation, said the move was to enhance the measures put in place to stop the spread of the virus, and added that it was important to protect health workers who were front liners in containing its spread.

“Our health workers who are working effortlessly to manage the pandemic need to have the necessary protective gears, and once they have them, clients are assured of quality health care.

“It is therefore prudent for us to present these items to them,” he said.

He commended management of the Hospital for the measures put in place in responding to the disease so far, and encouraged them to be extra vigilant to prevent staff, patients and visitors of the facility from being infected with the virus.

He was of the view that “visits to some public health facilities revealed that they do not give priorities to other minor health issues and have closed down some departments in such facilities as a result of the pandemic, which is worrying to us”.

Pastor Dr Kyeremeh, therefore, appealed to government and the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to ensure that all health facilities in the country functioned fully and provided quality health care to members of the public to improve on their health.

Pastor Ekao K. Amouzou, the SDA Hospital Director who received the items, lauded the GAHS for the kind gesture, and said the PPEs would enhance operations and effective response against the COVID-19.

He appealed to government, corporate entities and individuals to come to the aid of the hospital and support it with more PPE to enhance service delivery to residents to boost their confidence.

He reiterated the need for members of the public to abide by the preventive advice issued by the Ghana Health Service (GHS), World Health Organization (WHO) and other health professionals, saying, it would help to stem the spread of the virus in communities.

Pastor Godfred Ataburo, SDA Hospital Board Chairman, expressed gratitude to the GAHS for the gift and said he was inspired when health workers received the needed protective gears, and added that, it would encourage them to give off their best in responding to the pandemic.
