Sogakofe (VR), April. 26, GNA – Mr Kobena Mensah Woyome, Member of Parliament for South Tongu has donated a canoe and four life jackets to the people of Bludo, a farming community in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region.
The MP said the gesture was to ease movement of people in the community to other neighbouring settlements and markets.
He said Bludo had been one of the communities that served as the food baskets for the South Tongu District but often cut off by the Avu lagoon during the raining season and was hopeful the canoe and life jackets would make things better, promising more of such supports.
Mr Woyome said the donation was in response to the needs presented by the Assembly woman of the area, saying, “Teachers in the Bludo community will also now have access to a public canoe that would transport them from the neighboring communities to their school in Bludo.”
The MP has also built a three-unit classroom block for the Bludo community and said other needs of the area would be met soon.
Mr Kojo Amewudah, a Unit Committee Member of the Bludo Tosukpo Electoral Area who received the items on behalf of the Assembly Woman appreciated the efforts of the MP.
He said the canoe would relief farmers from extravagant cost in transporting products to market centres.
