Sefwi-Waiwso Municipal Assembly suspends ‘market days’ of three markets to curb COVID-19

Sefwi-Waiwso (W/N) April 16, GNA – The Sefwi-Waiwso Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) and the Municipal Rapid Response Team for COVID-19 in consultation with the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Assembly Members and Markets Queens have suspended the market days of three traditional markets.

The suspension will last for three weeks in order to stop the spread of COVID -19 in the area.

The suspension which would begin on Monday 20th April 2020 would affect the Sefwi- Dwenase market, Sefwi -Boako and Asawinso markets which are held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays respectively.

This was contained in a release issued by the Sefwi- Waiwso Municipal assembly and signed by Mr Louis Owusu-Agyapong, Municipal Chief Executive and copied the GNA.

The release stated that only traders who deal in food stuffs and meat would be allowed to sell at Sefwi- Dwenase market on Fridays, but that second-hand clothing, shoes and cloth dealers would not be permitted to sell.

The statement cautioned drivers to observe social distancing protocols by reducing the number of passengers they pick and not to increase transport fares as the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has reduced prices of fuel.

It entreated passengers to report drivers and tricycle drivers who would flout the directives to the police and Rapid Response Team of the assembly for the appropriate sanctions to be taken against such drivers.

The statement further reminded residents to continue to adhere to the approved COVID -19 protocols which include; frequent use of hand sanitizers, regular hand washing with soap under running water, avoid overcrowded places and observe social distancing in order to keep the area free from COVID -19.
