Accra, April 20, GNA – Eric Kofitse, a mason who defiled and impregnated his 13 year old step daughter at Christian Village near Achimota, has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment in hard labour by an Accra Circuit Court.
Kofitse, who is said to have started his nefarious act with his daughter in 2019, pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement.
The convict is said to have threatened to stab the victim to death in her sleep when she informs anyone.
Currently, the victim is seven weeks pregnant.
The court presided over by Mrs. Christina Cann convicted Kofitse on his own plea.
Before his conviction, Kofitse pleaded with the court to have mercy on him and that he was not going to repeat the act.
When the court asked him what time he conducted his sexual escapades with the victim, Kofitse said any time the victim was available in their room and his wife had also gone to the market to conduct her shoes trading.
Kofitse told the court that he would take care of his pregnant step daughter and the unborn child till both complete their schooling.
Kofitse’s wife denied before the court that she has been starving her husband of sex.
The facts as presented by Chief Inspector Kofi Atimbire was that the complainant is a driver residing at Dansoman while the convict resides at Christian Village near Achimota in Accra.
Chief Inspector Atimbire said the victim is a class four pupil residing with her mother and the convict who is her stepfather.
Prosecution held that Kofitse during the year 2019 started having sex with the victim any time her mother who is a trader was not at home.
The prosecution said anytime Kofitse had sex with the victim he threatened to stab her to death.
However after some time the victim managed to tell her mother on three occasions but she assured the victim that she was going to talk to her step father to stop these sexual acts, and asked her not to tell anyone.
Prosecution said during the early part of March this year, Kofitse had sex with the victim and she reported the incident to her mother.
Chief Inspector Atimbire said the victim’s mother then took the victim to Nsawam where her (mother’s cousin) was residing.
He said “The victim could not stay with her mother’s cousin so she was brought back to her mother”.
According to the prosecution, the victim who could not stand Kofitse’s sexual demands escaped to her biological father at Dansoman.
He said the victim at Dansoman fell sick and she was sent to the hospital, medical examination showed that shewas seven weeks pregnant.
Prosecution said it was there that she disclosed to her father that the convict had been having sex with her whiles she was staying with her mother.
A report was made to the Police at Achimota and Kofitse was arrested and during interrogation admitted the offence.
