Gomoa Central MP donates COVID-19 Items to 50 Communities

Ekwamkrom (C/R), April 16, GNA- Mrs Naana Eyiah Quansah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Gomoa Central, has admonished residents in the Constituency to adhere strictly to the directives given by President Akufo-Addo and Ghana Health Service to support the war against the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the MP, the only panacea to curb the spread of COIVID-19 was to abide by the social distancing and health protocols to ensure total elimination of the dreadful disease from the Country.

Mrs Eyiah Quansah gave the advice when she donated large quantities of hand sanitizers, packets of tissue papers, Veronica buckets, nose masks, liquid soap and other items to communities, security services, chiefs and all health facilities in the Gomoa Central District.

Fifty communities in the Constituency have so far received the COVID-19 materials to help the fight against the disease, which had devastated the whole World.

The MP hinted that government under President Akufo-Addo was poised to ensure that the pandemic was subdued, but added that would largely depend on Ghanaians strictly adhering to the protocols.

“It is important for us all to come together as one people and one nation to fight against the threats of COVID-19 pandemic, which had claimed hundreds of thousand lives worldwide”.

The MP bemoaned the politicization of the COVID-19 pandemic and appealed to those who have hidden behind it to raise false alarm to desist from such activities.

The MP also cautioned people indulging in the posting of fake news on social media and other negative acts to stop the practice, which could create fear and panic and cause confusion and harm.

Mr Benjamin Kojo Otoo, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Gomoa Central said COVID-19 District Taskforce had intensified its educational campaign in various communities and market centers about the dangers of the disease.

He said after disinfecting all market centers and public places, the taskforce with assistance from security agencies had been to information centers to educate the people about the disease right at the grassroots.

The DCE cautioned the youth not to allow themselves to be used to incite the public and also send bad signals which could breed chaos against decisions towards eradication of the COVID-19.

He said that Gomoa Central District was well prepared and has created isolation centers to handle any cases but hoped that it would not hit the District.

Mr Otoo warned people who were peddling rumors about the COVID-19 to stop it, saying that soon security personnel would go after them and have them prosecuted when found culpable.
