Accra, April 30, GNA- Five persons who allegedly broke into a shop at Ashiyie, near Oyibi and made away with provisions including assorted bags of rice worth GH¢31,145, have been granted bail by an Accra Circuit Court.
They are Kwasi Ansah Padmore,50, and Kofi Sakyi 34, both drivers, Francis Nkrumah, 29, Kwadwo Yeboah 26, and Kwame Frimpong, 26 all drivers mates.
The accused were nabbed when the Police Patrol Team from Ashiaman Divisional Command intercepted two vehicles with the accused transporting the stolen items at dawn on March 29, this year.
The accused charged with conspiracy to commit crime to wit stealing and stealing, pleaded not guilty.
The court presided over by Mrs. Afia Owusua Appiah admitted the accused to bail in the sum of GH¢45,000 with two sureties.
They are to reappear on May 16.
The Prosecution said madam Gertrude Tenkorang Akoto, a businesswoman is the complainant.
He said on March 28, this year, at about 2030 hours, the complainant closed her provision shop at Asheyie and went home.
Prosecution said the following day when the complainant returned to the shop, she noticed that items including assorted bags of rice, cartons of canned fish and beef, cartons of tin tomatoes and milk and gallons of oil had been stolen from the shop.
The Prosecution said Madam Akoto reported the matter to the Accra Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
According to the prosecution on March 29, this year, at about 0315 hours a Police Patrol Team from the Ashiaman Divisional Command intercepted a Hyundai Van with registration number WR 2288-13 and an Opel Astra with registration number GR 5054-11 on board the accused and the stolen items.
During interrogation, prosecution said the accused admitted breaking into the shop of the complainant at Asheyie and led the Police to the crime scene.
Afterwards, prosecution said the Ashiaman Police handed the accused and all the exhibits to the Accra Regional CID for further investigations.
