Bolgatanga, April 18, GNA – Two Orphanages in the Bolgatanga Municipality of the Upper East Region have received Veronica buckets and liquid soap from the Restorative Seed Society, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that is helping to fight the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
The beneficiary orphanages are; ‘Mama Laadi Children’s Home’ and the ‘Next Generation Home’.
At a short ceremony, Mr Hillary Adongo, the Executive Director of the NGO, stated that his outfit would continue to partner government and other stakeholders in fighting the pandemic.
“Currently my outfit is embarking on education and sensitization programmes, targeting market women and the rural folks in the region, on the need to observe the social distance protocols, putting on hold funeral performance and avoiding overcrowdings”, he stressed.
The Executive Director further used the occasion to call on other organizations especially government, to provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other essential equipment to health workers and security personnel stationed at the borders.
The management of the orphanages lauded the efforts of the NGO and said it would boost their hygienic practices.
Ms Mama Laadi Ayine, the Proprietress of the Mama Laadi Children’s Home, thanked the NGO for using the occasion to educate and sensitize staff and children of the homes about how to observe the protocols prescribed by the President and the World Health Organization to avoid contracting the disease.
She appealed to other NGOs and individuals in the country to support the orphanages by providing the needs of the orphans in the homes.
“Such deprived children when supported to be brought up properly, could contribute their quota to national development”, she said.
Ms Scholastica Amoobono Azubire, the Caretaker of the Next Generation Home, said the home had educated the children to observe handwashing with soap under running water and practice personal hygiene.
She stated that the items donated by the NGO had come at the right time and appealed to other NGOs and the Government not to only concentrate in distributing COVID-19 items to health facilities and other organizations but also focus on the orphanages.
