COVID-19: Hohoe garment makers distribute locally produced masks

Hohoe (V/R), April 15, GNA – The Hohoe Zone of Ghana National Association of Garment Makers (Garment) has distributed 1,000 locally manufactured nose masks as part of its support to the fight of the novel coronavirus disease at the cost of GH¢1,350.00.

The Association donated 400 masks to the Hohoe Municipal Hospital, 100 to the Hohoe Division of the Ghana Police Service, while three driver unions; Progressive Transport Owners Association (PROTOA), Cooperative Union and Ghana Private Road and Transport Union (GPRTU) received 50 nose masks each.

Mr. Emmanuel Kwame Ayitey, Hohoe Zonal Chairman and Volta Regional Vice Chairman of Ghana National Association of Garment Makers (Garment) said the Association would also make similar donations to market women and other organizations.

He called for stakeholders’ support and asked government to engage members of the Association in producing Personal Protection Equipment (PPEs) for health workers in the region.

Mr. Ayitey said the Association had initiated steps to sensitize members and their apprentices on precautionary measures to take at their various workplaces.

Madam Esther Kortoe Ayitey, a health worker who received the items on behalf of Dr. Pius Mensah, the Medical Superintendent of the Hospital and management expressed gratitude to the Association for the support.

Chief Inspector George Okyere of the Hohoe Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service also expressed gratitude to the Association for its support, while urging the citizenry to adhere to all measures, especially social distancing, to help curb the spread of the disease.
