COVID-19 fight: Dormaa East Assembly presents items to communities

Wamfie (B/R), April 22, GNA – The Dormaa East District Assembly in the Bono Region has presented Veronica buckets, tissue papers, liquid soap and hand sanitizers to 12 communities to prevent the outbreak of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in those areas.

The communities are Asuhyiae, Asuotiano, Dormaa-Akwamu, Akontanim, Kyeremasu, Subinko, Wamanafo, Kobedie, Asupraa, Wamfie, Sabikro and Nsesereso.

Mr. Emmanuel Kofi Agyemang, the District Chief Executive (DCE) did the presentation when he visited each of the communities to among others urge the leadership and populace to strictly adhere to precautionary measures and observe social distancing protocols against contraction of the COVID-19.

Giving an overview of efforts being made by the Assembly to avert the outbreak of the COVID-19 in the District at one of the presentation ceremonies at Wamfie, Mr. Agyemang implored the people to report strangers and non-permanent indigenes of the area coming from particularly Accra and Kumasi to the nearest health facility for appropriate test to be conducted on such individuals.

He said such persons could unknowingly be carrying the virus, but early detection could enable health officials to act swiftly.

Mr. Agyemang said the District Public Health Emergency Committee had been replicated in the Area Councils, saying with the support of the District Task Force, they occasionally visited the communities to check if social distancing protocols were being observed strictly, and where possible educate the populace who were flouting the protocols.

The DCE said the Committee had also visited all health facilities in the District to assess their preparedness against the outbreak of the disease, adding that it had placed Veronica buckets at vantage points to ensure hand washing with soap under running water to prevent the people from contracting the disease.

Nana Diamono Asamoah Kokoti Kumi, the Gyaasehene of Wamfie, tasked the Area Councils’ members to visit households and report people who had just settled in the area, so that health officials would screen them.
