Accra, March 27, GNA – The Tobinco Pharmaceuticals Limited and other subsidiaries of the Tobinco Group of Companies, Friday donated items worth GH¢251,000.00 to the Ministry of Health to help manage COVID-19 patients and prevent the spread of the disease.
The items included Tobcee chewable Vitamin C plus Glucose tablet, Zinvite blood capsules, B-G-Glutamine plus tab, Omal hand sanitizers, face masks, aluminum veronica buckets, and hand washing bowls.
The items would be distributed to respective health facilities and the public, especially those at higher risks of contracting the disease.
Mr Samuel Amo Tobbin, the Chairman of the Tobinco Group of Companies, said the Group believed it was their duty to support government whenever the nation encountered any challenge.
Tobinco, he said, would therefore not only extend support to regional capitals but also to rural areas where the most vulnerable people were, adding that it was part of the Corporate Social Responsibility of the Group.
He urged everyone to obey the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organisation directive to prevent contracting or spreading the disease.
The directive involves washing of hands regularly with soap under running water, frequent use of alcohol based hand sanitizer, and keeping two-meters distance from someone sneezing, coughing or showing signs of fever.
Others are avoiding handshake and covering of nose and mouth with the elbow when sneezing or coughing.
Mr Tobbin noted that some of the drugs would help boost the immune system of consumers, especially COVID-19 patients, and help to revitalize their haemoglobin.
He urged businesses and other corporate bodies to support government in the fight against the COVID-19, as it was beyond the capability and capacity of government alone.
Mr Kwaku Agyemang Manu, the Minister of Health, expressed gratitude to the Tobinco Group for the kind gesture.
“Tobinco, you have been a partner for long and have demonstrated that whenever the nation is in crisis, Government of Ghana and the entire nation can rely on you,” he said.
Mr Agyemang Manu said government was still receiving cash and kind donations from benevolent bodies to support the procurement of Personal Protective Equipment among other items for distribution to individuals and institutions directly handling COVID-19 cases.
Mr Agyemang Manu said government was also mobilising more health personnel to train them to better manage COVID-19 cases.
“God will bless the Tobinco Group of Companies to survive and grow well. This will enable the Group to go to Ghana’s aid whenever it becomes necessary,” he added.
Even though the pandemic was a distress, the Minister said the Tobinco Group had brought an innovation that had created jobs out of it for Ghanaians with its locally manufactured veronica buckets.
Ghana, since March 12, 2020 has recorded 136 cases of the COVID-19, with three deaths according to the Ghana Health Service.
