CSO calls for lockdown of country’s major cities

Tamale, March 26, GNA – Northern Regional Youth Network (NRYN), a youth-led Civil Society Organization (CSO) based in the Northern region, has called on the government to immediately lockdown major cities in the country to curtail the spread and community infection of Covid-19.

It said “the sharp rising of confirmed cases is a cause for worry for many Ghanaians. Considering various observations and analysis by experts, is very possible that so many people are infected and are going around transmitting the deadly disease to innocent people”.

This was contained in a statement signed by Mr Inusah Mohammed, Regional Convenor of the NRYN, and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), in Tamale.

The statement indicated that “what makes the issue worse is the fact that there is no random testing going on for us as a country to determine the exact number of people infected for the right measures to be taken”.

“We are calling on the government of Ghana led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to listen to the many calls by experts to as a matter of urgency, immediately lockdown the major cities of Ghana to effectively fight the deadly Covid-19 pandemic,” it said.

The CSO urged the citizenry to strictly observe the preventive protocols issued by health experts saying, they should endeavour to frequently wash their hands under running water with soap and minimize body contacts.
