Sunyani, March 30, GNA – There was no business activities within and outside the central business district (CBD) of the Sunyani Municipality for a successful disinfection of markets by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.
Shop operators, hawkers, petty traders, mobile money agents and prospective buyers were all absent in the entire Sunyani township on Monday to enhance market hygiene as part of government’s measures to curtail the spread of COVID 19.
Consequently, Sunyani was virtually a ‘ghost town’ as the usual daily vehicular movement and human traffic, as a result of the brisk business activities in the CBD too was nil.
The exercise started at 0600 hours from Sunyani post office square through the principal streets to the old and Chiraa stations within the CBD before the spraying gangs of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, a sanitation management company moved to other suburbs including ‘Zongo’ and ‘Kuotokrom’ to disinfect those areas.
Other notable places were the central (old) market and the Nana ‘Bosoma’ market, popular called Wednesday market.
Some individuals who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview commended residents of Sunyani, especially business operators and traders for their cooperation that paved way for a successful disinfection exercise.
Ms Adiza Rukaya, a store operator applauded President of the land and the Bono Regional Coordinating Council for the exercise and expressed the hope that the general public would follow medical experts’ advice and President Akufo-Addo’s directives to prevent the spread of the COVID-19.
Madam Lucy Adoma, another trader urged fellow traders and the general public to follow the directives “to avoid our share of the lock down”.
