Babile Policlinic to receive a 30-bed capacity ward

Lawra, (UW/R), March 27, GNA – The Babile Polyclinic in the Lawra Municipality, has been earmarked to benefit a 30-bed capacity ward under the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP), Mr Martin Bomba-Ire, the Lawra Municipal Chief Executive has said.

This formed part of the projects under the implementation of the One Million Dollar per Constituency initiative of the government.

The MCE made this known at Lawra during a sod cutting ceremony by the Northern Development Authority (NDA) for the construction of a 15-bed capacity emergency ward for the Lawra Municipal Hospital under the IPEP.

The six-month emergency ward project, valued at GHȻ607,000.00 was expected to commence in two weeks’ time.

Mr Bomba-Ire noted that patients who were admitted at the Polyclinic were compelled to lay on the floor due to the inadequacy of space at the ward.

He expressed hope that the ward, when completed, would go a long way to improve health care service delivery to the people in the area.

At Busa in the Wa Municipality where the NDA also cut sod for the construction of a two-delivery bed and two-laying-in bed capacity maternity ward for the Busa Health Centre, Madam Inusah Fuseina, a Senior Staff Nurse at the facility, said the facility would help improve maternal health services to the people in the area.

She said the facility, which was a referral centre for surrounding communities including Jonga and Biihe communities, currently had one delivery bed, which forces them to refer pregnant women to the Wa Municipal Hospital for delivery services.

Madam Inusah indicated that some of the women who refused to go to the Wa Municipal Hospital when referred, were delivered on the floor, and said the facility, when completed would be of great relief to the staff and the community.

The GHȻ220,000.00 maternity ward project is expected to commence in two weeks’ time and would be completed within three months.
