rnKumasi, May 9, GNA – The Ghana Red Cross Society (GRCS) in Ashanti has organised a blood donation campaign in support of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) Blood Bank. rnIn all, 57 pints of blood was donated by members of the society and other volunteers. rnMr Kwame Asante, Ashanti Regional Manager of the Society, said this was their contribution towards helping to save lives at the facility. rnThe goal of the Red Cross is to provide services to humanity and that its members would continue to work with passion for the good and health of society. rnMr Kofi Adu-Amoateng, a Senior Blood Donor Organizer at KATH, commended GRCS for the gesture and invited other institutions and bodies to do the same. rnHe said he was happy with the response of the people, particularly the youth in the region to blood donation campaigns. rnHe mentioned students in Senior High Schools (SHS) and the Moslem community as the facility’s major donors, contributing about 70 per cent of blood to the hospital’s blood bank. rnMr Adu-Amoateng said the hospital would forever remain grateful to the volunteers. rnThe Regional Public Relations Officer of the GRCS, Mr Felix Asrachie Baidoo, said as part of activities lined up to mark this year’s World Red Cross Day, they have stepped up public education on issues of safety both in the home and at the work place.rnGNA
