Accra, Nov. 27, GNA - The Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly has donated a cheque for an undisclosed amount, to purchase five-wheelchairs for the Centre for Ageing Studies (CFAS) at the University of Ghana, Legon.

A statement from the Assembly copied to the GNA said the gesture followed an appeal by the Centre for support to procure wheelchairs under its “Project 100 Wheelchairs for Older Persons with Mobility Challenges Programme.”

Presenting the cheque, Mr Boye Laryea, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), said the Assembly was motivated to support the aged in society after hearing the CFAS’s appeal on an Accra-based radio station.

Mr Laryea indicated that the Assembly was already passionate about helping the aged and Persons with Disability (PWD) in general, to contribute their quota to national development.

Dr Delali A. Dovie, a Research Fellow at the Centre for Ageing Studies, who received the cheque, thanked the Assembly for the donation and assured them that the donation would be used for its intended purpose.

The Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly MCE was accompanied by Madam Sefia Salifu, the Senior Human Resource Manager, Madam Tabitha Seglah, an Assistant Director, and Madam Mary Kaade Kafari of the Social Welfare and Community Development.
