Kumasi Nov. 27, GNA – More than 2,000 residents from various Zongo communities in the Ashanti region took to the streets to advocate for peace at the maiden Inter-Political Party Peace Walk, in Kumasi.
The call for peaceful elections has been a longstanding priority, prompting the Zongo Alliance for Peace, under the auspices of the Asanteman Zongo Nkosuohene, Sarki Abdulai Ali Barry, to organize the walk.
The initiative aims to foster unity and promote peaceful coexistence within Zongo communities across the region.
Participants marched through the principal streets of Aboabo and ended the walk at the Kumasi Central Mosque.
A notable highlight of the event was the harmonious display of unity as supporters from various political parties, adorned in their respective party paraphernalia, embraced one another in a show of solidarity.
The event drew representatives from all major political parties, the President of the Council of Zongo Chiefs, other Zongo traditional chiefs, Imams, youth groups, and other distinguished figures in Kumasi.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Mr. Abdul Manaf, the Organizing Secretary of the group, underscored the importance of promoting peace awareness.
“The essence of the walk is to unite all residents, regardless of party affiliation, and to educate young people, especially Zongo youth who may be influenced by political figures to engage in acts of chaos during the election cycle,” he stated.
