Election 2024: Youth association urges government to complete abandoned projects in Gwira area

Takoradi, Nov. 27, GNA – With a few days to the 2024 general election, the Gwira Youth Development Association (GYDA) in the Evaloe-Adjomoro-Gwira Constituency of the Western Region has called on the government to complete all abandoned projects in the area.

Mr Isaac Wandah Kwofie, the Chairman for the Association, speaking at a press conference, said the state of those projects, including roads, markets, and AstroTurf among others, were a source of worry for residents, and that the government must expedite action to complete them and bring relief to the people.

According to him: “On August 18, 2020, our President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo paid a visit to Nananom at Gwira Bamiankor to cut sod for the construction of Gwira Aiyinasi – Gwira Wiawso road, and we were very glad for such because Gwira does not have a road with bitumen.

“However, less than four months after the 2020 general election, the contractor was nowhere to be found and has not returned to continue till date.”

Touching on other abandoned projects, Mr Kwofie stated that a former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Nzema East broke the ground last year for work to commence on the construction of an AstroTurf for sporting activities, however, the project had not seen light of day.

“Our current honourable MCE also called on the chiefs to cut sod for the construction of a new market centre at Gwira Aiyinasi, but as we speak today, we can only witness the footings,” he added.

He said the government’s inability to complete the project hampered the socio-economic development within the area and appealed to the authorities to come to their aid and complete them to make life easier for them.

Mr Kwofie also spoke about other issues that needed attention like the illegal mining menace, which had polluted the River Ankobra that served as their only source of water, and a healthcare facility which was in a deplorable state.
