Effiduase (Ash) Nov. 26. GNA – The Ministry of National Security (NS) is touring some Senior High Schools (SHSs) in the Ashanti Region to sensitize the students to be security conscious in their various communities.
The ‘See Something, Say Something’ campaign, is aimed at alerting all Ghanaians to be responsible for the security of their various neighbourhoods to prevent possible terrorists’ attacks and ensure public safety at all times.
The campaign team, led by Madam Akosua Dankwah Ntim Sekyere, visited SHS and TVET schools in the in the Sekyere East, Kumawu, Juaben and Ejisu districts to educate and empower the students about their environment and report any suspicious characters to law enforcement authorities.
They also met the various stakeholders in the communities to put the message across.
Speaking at one of the forums in Effiduase, Madam Ntim Sekyere, said countries that shared borders with Ghana such as Burkina Faso, Mali, and Nigeria had all experienced disturbing terrorists’ attacks and Ghana could be a possible target.
It was therefore, critical to put stringent measures in place and rally all citizens to be very conscious on activities in their various areas to help protect the country from attacks.
Terrorists, she said, were against western education and so students needed to be involved in the combat readiness against them.
She advised the youth to be careful on social media because terrorist were all over there.
Mr. Joseph Akoto, a member of the team, said the campaign bothered on peace, security and the protection of the country.
He said West Africa had been the target of these groups and so there was the need to take proactive measures to ensure that stakeholders joined the security agencies to protect life and property.
He called on the citizenry not to entertain strangers and also not to put the law into their own hands during citizen arrest.
Mr. Joseph Amoako, also a team member of the campaign, advised the students to report strange people and strange activities on their campuses to the school authorities.
