Ada, Nov. 26, GNA – Nene Djetse Abram Kabu Akuaku III, Paramount Chief of the Ada Traditional Area, has urged the people of Ada and beyond to protect peaceful coexistence among themselves and exercise their franchises accordingly.
Nene Akuaku, who is also the President of the Ada Traditional Council, also urged Divisional Chiefs, sub-chiefs, and other traditional authorities to encourage their subordinates to live in harmony, peace, and unity before, during, and after the general elections.
Nene Agudey Obitchere III, Manklalo of the Ada State, who delivered the peace message on behalf of the paramount chief at a media encounter, noted that Ada has been known over the years for peace, unity, and oneness in elections.
He noted that the elections were only a way of practicing democracy, and that exercising one’s franchise should not call for a war.
He explained that choosing a president and parliamentarians should not create enemies within the populace; hence, the need for everyone to stay calm and peaceful.
“Ghana has subscribed to democratic governance, and we as a people must respect that. We have lived in peace and harmony for decades, and so, we must not allow a day’s voting exercise to destabilise our peaceful coexistence,” he said.
Djetse Akuaku III, also the former president of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, urged political figures to embark on peaceful electioneering campaigns as the election day was getting closer.
He urged all candidates to accept the outcome of the elections in good faith and allow peace to reign in the traditional area.
He also appealed to the youth to eschew themselves from vandalism and election malpractices, stating that, “your candidate or political party does not surpass either the Constitution of Ghana or the peace of the nation. Therefore, if you win, jubilate consciously to not infringe on the opponent’s rights.”
He asked them to prioritise their well-being, value the peace they enjoy, and not involve themselves in any politically influenced fight that would be detrimental to the development and future of the Ada State.
He asked all candidates who might not be declared winners to stay calm, peaceful, and hope for a better future.
