The Church of Jesus Christ calls for peace and love ahead of Christmas

Accra, Nov. 25, GNA – The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints as part of its mission has called for peace and love among Christians ahead of Christmas festivities.

The Campaign, dubbed “Light The World”, which is celebrated every year is to encourage people all over the world to transform Christmas into a season of service.

Participants are invited to touch hearts and change lives by doing the things Jesus did: feeding the hungry, comforting the lonely, visiting the sick and afflicted, and showing kindness to everyone.

Elder Alfred Kyungu, President of Africa West, Latter Day Saints Church, speaking at the launch ceremony, said Christmas was to share the gifts of Jesus with others, thus showed the love and care He had for mankind to emulate His teachings.

He added that the Church celebrated Christmas with peaceful enthusiasm and love, therefore the entire world  must portray the same to glorify His name.

He said from the humble beginning, Jesus Christ taught us to live a Christ-like life, showing us the way to his teachings and to follow his footsteps to be accepted and overcome every obstacle.

“When life feels the most difficult, Jesus Christ invites us to place us at his feet and radiates light upon us for peace”, he added.

Elder Kyungu said the most important way to Light the World was something each of us could do on our own, saying, “we must find unique ways to be kind and serve others during the Christmas season. As you do so, you will experience a more meaningful Christmas and better understand the true joy that comes from following the example of Jesus Christ.”

Mrs Zenator Agyemang-Rawlings, Member of Parliament for Korley Klottey Constituency, said it was important for Christians to show light of peace, mercy and love for others to have a feel of faith in their endeavors.

She said Christians must be the peace makers, love setters and conflict resolutors to prevent any violence among humanity.

“I believe the message of peace is very timely, but one of self-respect, mutual respect, one where the respect of peace and fairness, inclusivity and justice are so important since we are an election year,” she said.

She said, “We have entered a time of the world where there’s so much intolerance and there is so much imbalance, but we have an opportunity to be a shining light for all.”

Mrs Agyemang-Rawlings was presented with a picture frame of Jesus Christ as a gift from the Church to commemorate the occasion of lighting the world.

The ceremony saw Choir Groups, Singers, and Solo Artists, who entertained audience with melodious musics.

As part of Light the World initiative, participants use the month of December to find opportunities to perform acts of love and service for family, friends, and neighbors.
